Driving Questions
Look at the three Driving Questions below and in your groups, decide which question you would like to answer. Each group can answer the same question or each group can answer different questions. The choice is yours!
- How can we share our creations with others?
- How can we use art to express our ideas and emotions?
- How can we teach others to make something delicious?
Possible Ideas
Maker Fair Art Gallery Cooking Show
How can we share our creations with others?
Possible Idea: Maker Fair
Activities:
- Each student chooses something to make (e.g., a craft, a recipe, or a simple invention).
- Create display boards explaining how they made their item and what they learned.
- Host a “Maker Fair” for other classes or families to showcase their projects.
- If any sales occur during this fair, students can decide on the best use of these funds. This should be towards something that benefits everyone, not just individuals.
How can we use art to express our ideas and emotions?
Possible Idea: Art Gallery Walk
Activities:
- Students create original artworks using materials like paint, clay, or recycled objects.
- Write artist statements explaining their work.
- Set up an “art gallery” in the classroom and invite guests to view the creations.
- Guests can walk through and admire the art as the presenters talk about their artworks.
How can we teach others to make something delicious?
Possible Idea: Cooking Show
Activities:
- Students work in small groups to choose a simple recipe and practice making it.
- Write a script for a short cooking demonstration.
- Record the “cooking show” and share the videos with others.
- Alternatively, host a cooking day and teach others in-person how to cook the chosen recipe(s).
